چکیده
Simultaneously improving strength and ductility has been an attractive theme in materials science engineering. Through designing nanostructures, it is possible to overcome the traditional trade-off between of materials. In this paper, we show that introducing superlattice intrinsic stacking faults nickel aluminide (Ni3Al) can facilitate its toughness. comparison with twin boundaries, enhancing effect more obvious. Most significantly, yield samples always superior their single crystalline counterparts, indicating Ni3Al be exceeded. These findings provide new insights into nanostructural design aerospace

Simultaneously Increasing the Ductility and Strength of Nanostructured Alloys
Strength and ductility are two of the most important mechanical properties of structural materials. However, they are often mutually exclusive, i.e., a material may be strong or ductile, but rarely both at the same time. This is also true for bulk nanostructured materials, which usually have high strength, but disappointingly low ductility. Bulk nanostructured materials are usually synthesized ...
متن کاملEffect of ion irradiation on tensile ductility, strength and fictive temperature in metallic glass nanowires
Ion irradiation of thermoplastically molded Pt57.5Cu14.3Ni5.7P22.5 metallic glass nanowires is used to study the relationship between glass structure and tensile behavior across a wide range of structural states. Starting with the as-molded state of the glass, ion fluence and irradiated volume fraction are systematically varied to rejuvenate the glass, and the resulting plastic behavior of the ...
متن کاملAchieving high strength and high ductility in magnesium alloy using hard-plate rolling (HPR) process
Magnesium alloys are highly desirable for a wide range of lightweight structural components. However, rolling Mg alloys can be difficult due to their poor plasticity, and the strong texture yielded from rolling often results in poor plate forming ability, which limits their further engineering applications. Here we report a new hard-plate rolling (HPR) route which achieves a large reduction dur...
متن کاملStacking faults and partial dislocations in graphene
We investigate two mechanisms of crystallographic slip in graphene, corresponding to glide and shuffle generalized stacking faults (GSF), and compute their -curves using Sandia National Laboratories Large-scale Atomic/Molecular Massively Parallel Simulator (LAMMPS). We find evidence of metastable partial dislocations for the glide GSF only. The computed values of the stable and unstable stackin...
